Okay, I confess, there are times when I’m too tired to think coherently or to plan a nice family dinner.
One such occasion happened several days ago when I decided to go to a nearby Long John Silvers/A & W Rootbeer drive through for some fast fried food for my family.
I pulled up to the drive through and saw, on the menu board, three grilled fish entrees. Grilled Pacific Salmon, Shrimp Scampi, and Grilled Tilapia. It’s called the Freshside Grille. I’d been thinking the best I could do was chicken fingers.
I ordered the usual fast food for my kids and I ordered the salmon. I had a choice of the entree (salmon and rice) at $4.99 or the meal (add steamed veggies and corn) at $6.99. Humgrily, I went for the full meal deal.
The steamed veggies had been steamed a little too long, but the salmon was tender and very good. The corn, at 10 grams of fat, tasted good, but I’ll bypass it next time.
The rice was heavily seasoned and for people like me who are watching their sodium, that could be a problem. But since I like to have at least one serving of salmon a week and because I don’t always have time to cook it, this gives me a welcome alternative.
Next time I’ll skip the veggies and the corn and go for the salmon.
I applaud Long John Silvers with coming up with something mostly healthy. I hope other fast food places will get past their salads and do the same.
