In early November, Florida hoteliers will gather in Gainesville, Fla., for The Florida Green Lodging Conference: “Being Green, Saving Green & Making Green.”
The meeting will take the mystery out of going green, according to pre-conference literature.
One reason for the conference is that the Florida governor issued an executive order effective this past January that prohibits state agencies and departments from holding meetings at non-green hotels.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection established the Florida Green Lodging Program in 2004 to encourage the lodging industry to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources.
Topics to be covered at the November conference are:
— How to get into the state’s Green Lodging Program
— How to retrofit a hotel to be green
— An industry look at tools for sustainability
Set for Nov. 10-12, the green sleep meet will be held at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center. Sponsors are the Gainesville Visitor and Convention Bureau, University of Florida and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
