Green banking goes far beyond the obvious recycling of paper, with the two biggest areas being in their buildings and their corporate travel. Several banks are working towards LEEDS certification. PNC has already been in involved with green buildings for the past 10 years. They’ve increased the natural life in their offices, they’ve installed recyclable carpeting and energy efficient heating systems, and they ensure their furniture is covered with eco-friendly fabrics. JP Morgan is ensuring their newest building in New York is equipped with the latest water efficient technology.
On the travel side, Wells Fargo and Capital One have both developed programs to ensure that their employees spend minimal time in traffic. Bank of America offers it’s employees $3000 for the purchase of a hybrid vehicle.
