In our state we have a Cabela’s store. In case you’re not familiar with Cabela’s, they are a big outdoor sporting goods retailer. And when I say big I mean BIG. They are actually one of the largest tourist attractions in Minnesota. (This fact alone is worthy of an article or two, but that will have to wait for another time.)
As you drive by the Cabela’s store on Interstate 35 south of the Twin Cities (in the northbound lane) you’ll see a big sign for Gander Mountain, one of their arch-rivals.
Maybe I’m weird but I just love that.
Every day, thousands of people drive to Cabela’s to look at various outdoors and sporting equipment. Cabela’s has invested heavily to develop this traffic, and they’ve done a fantastic job. Now, along comes Gander Mountain and they leverage this valuable traffic stream for the simple price of a billboard.
They have found a great way to put their name in front of a lot of people who might be interested in what they sell.
Simple but brilliant! Good job Gander Mountain.
