There’s been a lot of buzz lately about Google having a payment system in the works – one similar to Paypal. What would they do with such a thing? There is speculation that this payment system (tentatively named Google Payments) will integrate with GoogleBase. Here is an article that discusses it further.
If you haven’t used GoogleBase, it’s simply a way to list ‘stuff’ much like CraigsList. You can list anything from Products to Services to Recipes to Travel Packages to .. well you name it. GoogleBase presents you a different template depending on the item type you are planning to list.
I found it really easy to put up a GoogleBase listing for an item. I put this product listing up in about 3 minutes from start to finish. Much easier than eBay or Overstock. There is also a bulk upload option available. GoogleBase can be found here.
If Google were to add their own payment system tied in with GoogleBase, wouldn’t that make it an interesting place to potentially sell products? Another sales channel for a home-based business?
Move over eBay! Well maybe not yet, but I’ll bet there are lots of people paying attention to this. In the news this week, the Google CFO, George Reyes, mentioned that Google “will need to turn to other sources to generate more growth”. Today is Analyst Day at the Search Engine Giant, so they’ll likely have to field a question or two about ‘Google Payments’.
