We are at the true dawn of the information age in healthcare. Patients use the Internet to locate information on disease, on problems, to locate physicians and facilities – in fact, so much research and interaction can be accomplished online.
Google has been working on a health information product, as reported here on May 11 of this year.In a blog post recently, Google VP Adam Bosworth discussed the company’s interest in healthcare, and outlined where they see their product being used. As an aside, they’re looking for engineers to work on this gig.
More than one physician has had a patient come into their office armed with solid, current research – sometimes specialized areas that the physician wasn’t following closely. Tools such as Google will be an aid to both physicians and patients, and physicians will need to work to stay as the best consultant to patients and their health.
