Excellent discussion from MediaPost regarding the environmental clothing industry, I walked away with a mountain of information. We are so far past hemp t-shirts at the downtown headshop. We have Gen Y and their $520 billion in buying power, in love with green, passionate about green, and looking to wear it.
There are companies like Flocks, who tag their clothes with information about the actual sheep that provided the yarn. American Apparel is “made in L.A.”, and they’ll tell you stories about the real people who are sewing your clothes. Nike, Levi, and WalMart have all developed green product lines. It’s a market with a seemingly bright future.
Sarah Mahoney provides wonderful consumer profiles for the green shopper as well. Put this one on the “must read” list.
