1. people generally do not believe mentor is a for fee service
2. mentors are viewed as advisors, not involved in the practical success of their client
3. coaching is viewed as a full contact service, very involved in their client’s success
The poll question was intentionally vague in hopes it would give insight on the gut level feel for mentors and coaches.
I mentioned in my opinion post on the subject that I’ve offered both mentor and coaching services in the past. The poll originated in my curiosity and interest in identifying why the coaching services were better received. In particular, I offered a sales mentor service a couple years ago that I thought (and still believe) is probably the strongest service I’ve ever offered. It was a profitable service, but it never reached the level of success it should have. Conversely, weaker coaching offers were financially more successful.
As a second part of this discovery on mentor versus coaching services, I’m going to reintroduce my sales mentor offer as a sales coaching service. I’m curious if it will reach the potential it holds.
Do you have an example to share of a great coaching or mentoring service? What makes it great?
