I use LinkedIn, although not as often as they would probably
like me to. I do find it to be a great tool. Recently while I was on their site, I was asked if I wanted to
check my gMail contacts to see which of them are also on LinkedIn, but not
linked to me yet.
Having already tried this with my MS Outlook contacts and
failed, I thought – what do I have to lose? Immediately I had hundreds of
people I actually knew, from my gMail account and now we could connect via
LinkedIn. I checked off the ones I wanted to connect to, and in one fell swoop,
I had just sent out a fairly quality email (depending on how you feel about
LinkedIn) and I had created a custom greeting for my recipients.
It really was amazing, but I’m now back in contact with two
alliance partners who were “just thinking about me” and were glad to
have my information right in front of them. We are working on two new opportunities. Here is my profile.
This reminds me of when I used to drop by my big corporate
clients and during the course of a visit, SOMEONE had something to tell me, or
ask me, or order from me. So, like a Hallmark card, in THIS case for me,
LinkedIn IS the “next best thing to being there.”
