Today, Facebook announced that the start of 2009 welcomed a major landmark. The online social networking site can now claim 150 million users around the world, and almost half of them are using Facebook every day.
I’ll admit that I am one of these every-day users.
According to the Facebook blog, this includes people in every continent, even Antarctica: “If Facebook were a country, it would be the eighth most populated in the world, just ahead of Japan, Russia and Nigeria.”
What began as an online community of mostly American college students, the site now sees users from every demographic imaginable.
So, tell me. Are you a Facebook user? How often do you use it and why?
Are there other similar programs of which you are a part? Do you twitter?
For those of you who respond negatively, do you anticipate a change in 2009? Are your friends and peers putting the pressure on to step up your online game? In a world where even my grandmother emails regularly, how ubiquitous and common-place do you perceive these sites?
