Remember Ezines? Ah how fondly I remember the days when ezines were still new and exciting and there wasn’t much spam in my box. How fresh they looked. And when I had time to actually read them! There was a time when ezine advertising was a clear, effective part of a home-based business advertising campaign. But now there are at least 2 problems with ‘zines that didn’t exist back them. Spam Filters and Email Overload.
Because there is so much spam, a significant percentage of legitimate emails don’t ever get through to their intended recipients. This is due to spam filters and “false positives” (emails that get triggered as spam but really are not). This means that even emails that are of interest never see the light of day. But spam filters are generally getting better at identifying true spam, so that’s at least some good news.
Another issue is email overload. People like you and I simply get too much email every day! The problem this creates is that even if someone subscribes to your email newsletter (ezine) and it gets delivered, they may not ever read it. There is simply a lot of email fatigue going around because of the heavy use of email by marketers. I know that I’m guilty of just not getting around to certain email newsletters and ezines I’ve subscribed to.
So this leads me to the title of this post: Is ezine advertising still worthwhile? Many ezines still offer advertising, but I have not used this medium in a long time. Does anyone have any light to shed on this subject? Leave your comments please.
