When you drive over to your mechanic, the last thing you would normally be thinking about is how environmentally friendly the operation is. Dan Sullivan, owner of DJ Sullivan Collison Center, in Marshfield, Massachusetts, is working on changing that. He’s taken care of the little things like moving towards a paperless office, and using waterborne tape, but his bigger initiatives are especially impressive.
He has a machine that recycles the paint thinner, he has other machines that recycle the radiator coolants. He sends the tires and plastic car parts off to be recycled into playground mats, the oil is sent back to the vendors to be used for heating, and the headlights eventually end up as soda cans. To top it all off, his lawn is irrigated by reclaimed rainwater.
