Yesterday I blogged about real wholesale suppliers versus retailers who use the word “wholesale” as an adjective to describe their pricing.
How do you find real wholesaler suppliers that represent the manufacturer or importer? You can start by locating a local trade assocation. Working from trade associations, you can usually get in touch with wholesale supplier reps. For example, the Seattle Gift Center has an internal directory of suppliers on their page (click “Interactive Showroom And Product Directory”).
You will find relatively few genuine wholesale supply sources via search engines such as Google or Yahoo. Are they hiding? No, but they have little incentive to optimize their sites for general search engines since they only sell to trade resellers. In fact, many of them don’t even have websites and it’s not uncommon to find the reps with Earthlink or AOL email addresses!
There are also directories that have compiled much of this information. For example, the WorldWide Brands Directories are wonderful collections of genuine wholesale supplier resources.
So all you have to do is a little sleuthing. Starting from your trade association, a trade show, or a valid directory will often yield a wide field of wholesale suppliers.
