The past two days, I’ve posted entries about Pros and Cons of having an eBay store. Let’s look at how an eBay store might actually be used on eBay. One question that a lot of people have about eBay stores (especially after they discover there is no built-in traffic to them) is how to draw eBay buyers to the store?
To effectively tap into eBay’s traffic, you’ll need standard auction listings in addition to your store listings. However, there’s one thing extra you’ll need to place in your auction listings to accomplish this. Links to your eBay store!
Bad news: eBay has some specific rules against linking to other places within auction listings. Good news: That applies to sites outside of eBay – you are more than free to place links to your eBay store inside your auction listing(s). So pepper your listing description with links to your store! When each auction listing runs, people can be enticed to visit your store. How you entice them, of course, depends on the marketing message you use. Check out Phil Dunn’s Blog here at All Business for some great eBay copywriting tips.
Since you’re using an auction to drive traffic to your store, why not pull out all the stops and add some traffic generating features to it? eBay offers three ways to draw in more traffic.
Featured Plus! – is $19.95 and shows your listing at the top of Search results.
Gallery Featured – is $19.95 and adds a small version of your first picture to Search and Listings and showcases your picture in the Featured area of the Gallery view.
Home-Page Featured – is the ‘Lexus’ of the eBay custom features. It’s $39.95 and it rotates a link to your listing on eBay home page. Talk about high exposure!
(By the way, if you’re going to spring for a Home-Page Featured listing or any combination of these extras, you may as well make your auction a 10 day one to extend the exposure).
There’s a lot more to eBay stores, but that’s the gist of getting traffic to them. If you’re planning to build your home-based business on eBay and want to move beyond just auctions alone, you may want to consider using an eBay store. Using a combination of eBay’s features and options, you can build a profitable business on eBay.
