I spoke at a national sales conference on Saturday and the
theme of the event was Dream It and Do It. This topic caused me to think of
many things prior to my talk, because dreaming and actually doing something are
quite two different things.
Ever dreamed you won the lottery? In vivid detail, you planned out everything
you’d do with that multi-million dollar check, including the look on your face
around those who don’t like you – and what you’d say to those family members
who didn’t think you’d amount to much, right? That dream always seems real. But
turning that into reality is much different – just as in business.
How vivid are your 2008 goals and plans? Consider having at least one big,
achievable, but really stretch goal that you can take action toward TODAY.
Write it down – put it on your laptop next to where your trackball is – or on a
mirror – just keep focus on it everyday. Review how you have moved closer or
further to it each week.
Also, choose three nagging issues that you can resolve THIS WEEK. Just find a
way – creative or otherwise, to get them done.
One of my big goals for 2008 is to improve as a fundraising auctioneer – I love
doing it but need to further improve my “chant” – also known as the
fast talking part of auctioneering. Already I am competent to have helped raise
hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities and professional associations –
but want to improve on the entertainment aspect of the role. This is one of my
big three goals for this year.
Share your “big goal” as well as three things you are doing this week
to improve your business with me through my email or posted as a comment. The
best responses win $10 Starbucks cards. Have your ideas in this week and I’ll
post the winners.
