Some time ago, I participated in an exercise where I created a mind map of my social network. You can do the same thing and it offers some interesting insights.
Get a large sheet of plain paper. Put a small circle in the middle. This represents you. Next draw other circles that you can connect yourself to which represent your networks, your circles of influence, your communities, your referral partners, your family, your friends, and anyone in your world.
Label each circle and connect them all to you. This can offer a great point of introspection – as a business owner, are you out there enough? Do people know you, and do you know them? The best way to become known in your community is by being involved in multiple different networks — not just at the health club, or just at the weekly networking meeting – but rather in numerous venues and groups.
How do you flex your social capital? Thoughts are welcome and would be helpful to hear how others connect.
