Here’s a link to a blog entry on ClickZ posted by Zachary Rodgers which details the latest old school PR efforts to tap bloggers. The post cites the growing surge of PR folks emailing journalists when the clients they’re representing add a new post on their blog! UGH!
DON’T DO THIS!!!!!
This is like sending out an email to journalists when you get a new water cooler upstairs! Or those long-winded press releases about a new hire. As a journalist and as a blogger I say to those PR folks – DON’T KEEP DOING THIS! Stop wasting our time and cramming our inbox with NEWS that is NOT NEWS!
DON’T DO THIS!!!!
A better approach might be to really research what the journalist covers and email something about your client if they can serve as a good resource expert for that journalist or if there is a timely news story. And if you do want to send a notice about a particularly brilliant blog post your client has made, make sure it relates and keep it short.
Old school PR needs to go!!!
P.S. (Mom… you can keep sending out the new posts I add to my PR blog to all our relatives and sometimes (God bless you Mom) to the folks at NPR to get me a job there!
