Small Business Q&A
My small business discounts orders under special circumstances and to certain customers. My counter personnel think we should discount every customer. I am trying to get my counter sales personnel to undestand why we can’t discount to everyone. Can you help?
This will probably sound harsh, but you could do an exercise in discounting your counter personnel’s pay. Demonstrate it by advising how much you would discount their pay when a customer order is discounted. This should give them a clearer understanding of the issue. Unfortunately, a lot of employees still “don’t get” the fact that it takes money in the bank to be able to distribute a paycheck. If everything is discounted, where will the money come from?
