Yesterday I wrote about things to consider when creating your own autoresponder. That information applies if you are creating your own email series. But what happens when you sign up for a home based business opportunity and get an email series created by someone else?
This is particularly prevalent when you join a network marketing company. When you join one of these companies, often they have an autoresponder system with pre-written messages to send. This can be good or bad depending on how well written the messages are.
One advantage to these types of autoresponders is that the content tends to be up to date. For example, if the company is running a special promotion, it’s likely to be reflected in the autoresponder messages. When that promotion ends, someone else will manage changing the information in the autoresponder to reflect that.
The down side of these pre written autoresponders is that you usually can’t change the content. That means you can’t re-word things you don’t like and you can’t add your own ‘voice’ to the message.
One thing you can do with these is grab the email address and name from them. Then get the prospect to subscribe to your own autoresponder! That way, they’ll belong to you and you will be in charge of the content they get.
While they’re good for starters, don’t depend on your company supplied autoresponder to do much work for you. Most of the time they are a very short series anyway and they don’t really have the flair you can put into the messages yourself.
