Don over at Leadership. Now. went on a bit of a rant yesterday in his post called, Impotent Managers. Good for him!
Don is saying that if you have an employee who is not following the program, you should reevaluate how you are managing this individual and ensure expectations and the job priorities are clear.
This is so true.
Ralph Stayer, CEO of Johnsonville Sausage, is known for saying:
“It’s my fault.” (referring to most everything)
“If it’s gotta be, it’s up to me. If it’s up to me, it shall be.”
“Management A, gets you results A. You cannot get results B with management A.”
(Ralph’s book, Flight of the Buffalo is a classic hit. I had the pleasure of working with Ralph on a project many years ago and he was nice enough to write the forward to by book, High Impact Middle Management.)
Speaking of buffalo, here is a cool picture I took of a buffalo’s eye.
