When you think of great pizza, Domino’s isn’t exactly the first place that comes to mind. Even the people at Domino’s realize their product ranks pretty low on the taste charts. That’s why they’re mixing up the recipe, making the crusts more garlicky, tweaking the tomato sauce and upgrading the cheese. This is a fairly dramatic move for the company. Think about it. What would happen if McDonald’s revamped the Big Mac recipe? For Domino’s, it’s a calculated risk. “Does it change the game for them? I think it does,” one analyst told Reuters. But another analyst isn’t so sure: “When you’re down toward the bottom of the pack, it’s hard to fall much further,” he said. Domino’s worked two full years on the recipe relaunch and invested a ton of money. But anything that eliminates the cardboard aftertaste is time and money well spent.
Sonic speed. A Sonic restaurant in southeast Missouri was shut down for a day after a shift manager was found cooking crystal meth in the establishment. It appears the manager let himself into the restaurant after-hours and proceeded to whip up a batch of meth. He inadvertently tripped the alarm and was discovered by police while still in his Sonic uniform. Police also found chemicals used to make meth on the restaurant’s floor, including lithium and Sudafed. The health department shuttered the restaurant until it was thoroughly cleaned. After all, what would happen if some meth got on the chili cheese fries? That would make it really, really fast food.
Ochocinco goes to Denny’s. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco (the flamboyant no. 85 formerly known as Chad Johnson) gets a bad rap for his antics on and off the field. But, say what you will, the guy has a good heart. Following the tragic death of his teammate and friend Chris Henry, Ochocinco invited fans to mourn with him personally. He sent out a message via this Twitter account asking fans to join him for breakfast, his treat. Forty-five people showed up and they headed to Denny’s for the Grand Slam Breakfast. Afterward, they all went to Starbucks.
