With the expediency of email and more journalists preferring to receive email pitches, you might be tempted to just stop calling journalists altogether to pitch stories. But I would caution you and say that while email is good and be sure that your SUBJECT line is very compelling yet to the point at the same time, it still is good to follow up with a quick phone call. Most of the time you will get a journalist’s voice mail and don’t call them ten times a day. Still, you can very quickly in a phone call just let them know that you sent them a story pitch and would love to talk more about it.
This is espescially true if it’s a local or regional journalist, let them know you’re available and that you’d be happy to talk to them.
