manufacturing cost
cost to a manufacturing company of making a product consisting of direct materials, direct labor, and factory overhead; also called manufacturing expense. For example, in the production of a car, if direct materials are $2,000, direct labor $3,000, and factory overhead $1,500, the total manufacturing cost is $6,500.
