Shoes and handbags by fashion designer Lela Rose make their debut at Payless Shoesource today. Lela Rose is doing for Payless what designer Issac Mizrahi did for Target when he began creating fashions for that mass retailer a few years back.
Thanks to Lela Rose (and Laura Poretzky before her), Payless shoppers can own a stylish Finsbury Mary Jane Pump for $25. The shoe — very high fashion — combines faux suede and a patent strap with gunmetal detail. Lela Rose’s Addle Hill flat is girlied-up with a ruched patent strap across the shoe’s vamp. Its price: also an affordable $25.
Lela Rose offers another high-heeled pump with peep toes, and her Payless collection includes an ankle boot for $40. The Lela Rose $28 Coventry handbag is designed to go with any shoe in her Payless collection. Finally, she offers a really cute Little Lamb Cap Toe Bootie (for indoor wear) for $17.
The pairing of Lela Rose and Payless seems to be a wonderful innovation for shoe lovers on a budget; it probably will bring in plenty of bucks for Lela Rose; and I think it continues a nice trend for retailers — to make previously out-of-reach fashion available to the masses.
Here’s a tip of the toe to Lela Rose for stepping into the new retail world of high-low.
