Lately I’ve been feeling like the universe is throwing difficult people at me.
I don’t mean the universe is carefully placing slightly quirky people in my path as a, um, growth opportunity.
I mean I’m getting full-out, impossible-to-deal-with, you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-me, yank-my-chain, tension-headache whacko’s in hard-to-ignore areas of my life.
My 11-year-old would call them “stupid.” My own mind reaches for words like “devious” and “nefarious.”
And it’s making me wonder what management types recommend for handling the varieties of difficult people in our lives — especially in professional settings, where yelling “back off” is not always the best choice.
So starting this week, I’m going to do a little research on dealing with difficult people — and post what I find.
Is there a personality type that particularly bothers you? Are you dealing with a personal issue at work that’s spinning out of control? Send in your questions and I’ll see what I can find out.
