You’re busy. I’m busy. It’s tough to keep up on the latest news that’s affecting us, our lives and our businesses. That’s why AllBusiness has recently started The Daily News Digest. We’ve recruited Keith Girard, a veteran business editor, to look for the news, legal rulings and legislative activities that affect small business and to deliver it to you in one quick daily email. And this week Keith has really caught my attention with his coverage of the pressure being put on the SBA.
Right now the republican president and the democratic congress seem to be in a contest to see who can kill the SBA first. The only difference is their choice of weapons. The president seems to favor starving the SBA to death while certain members of the senate are threatening to bring down the axe all at once.
Yesterday, Keith noted the irony of President Bush’s praise of the SBA during Small Business Week even as he has slashed the agency’s budget by 41percent over five year. You can read his complete report here Daily News Digest: Bush Comments on SBA.
You can also read about Keith’s coverage of the senate debate about the future of the SBA and efforts by small business organizations to register their support for the organization in this news report: Daily New Digest: SBA
We are now in the Trickle Up Economy. Small business is the foundation of the US economy, the source of job creation, and the engine of growth. While there are always opportunities to improve the efficiency of any federal agency, as small business owners we need to send a clear message to our elected leaders that they cannot back down on their support for small business and, more importantly their investment. They need to put their money where their mouth is. Don’t tell us how much you appreciate small business, show us with investment and regulatory relief.
