It is hard for me to speak to a group without wanting to remind entrepreneurs and sales professionals of the power of the thank-you note. This little piece of paper with ink and stamp can transform a relationship – if you don’t believe me, try them sometime!
Write five thank you notes per week, in your downtime. By downtime, I mean always have four or five notes with you, along with stamped envelopes and your PDA or contact list. When you have a five minute block – waiting for someone, or for something – jot a quick note. Make them short and to the point. You will be amazed after doing this for 60-90 days what the results are.
On a business trip I just returned from, one of the highlights was getting a hand written thank you note from the manager of the hotel I was staying at – I found the note under my door shortly after I had checked in. This said “we care” to me more than most anything the hotel could have done.
You will be out twenty or thirty cents, depending on where you buy your cards, plus a stamp. This is one of the cheapest PR campaigns a small business can launch! Try it!
