Credit has crunched, debt’s dropped into denial,
Wall Street bailout busted with no mortgage files.
Detroit headed toward bankruptcy as we wait
Hoping they plan for solvent and greener days.
Wars erupt now from too many directions
As retirement investments go with a plunge.
While we push 2008 far out the gate
We must calmly use our time to contemplate
What has befallen and what may be coming
Before we all turn around and start running
To an island far from civilization —
A place to reverse bizarre machinations.
Our needs and goals we carefully examine
Although we may prefer life in a hammock.
Evaluate resources; can you save more?
Look for the ways to cut costs in every store.
All the failing financials might not bounce back
So quickly that we can risk waiting to act.
Review all your spending plans, budgets, and such.
It is an ordeal, but it can mean so much
When the future looks dicey and you prepare
To thrive through chaos behaving as a bear.
Eliminate debt; you’ve just got to do it.
Ask yourself now, what’s required for you to live?
A warm home, healthy food – that’s the beginning.
Transportation, insurance, polished grooming,
Other personal care, including your hair
Plus tools necessary for income to snare.
When you’re trimming back to essentials each day
Know Internet and cable are here to stay.
With the economy nose-diving, in truth
Your mind must focus toward mentally acute.
Be smart as you plan for whatever may come;
If you go unscathed, you will save quite a sum.
The upside of this ditty is peace of mind,
Knowing you’re preparing for 2009.
