We’ve had a rash of consumer safety scares recently, from chemicals in baby formula to lead in toys to concerns about shellfish. President Barack Obama has appointed Inez Tenenbaum to head up the Consumer Product Safety Commission. CNN Money reports on Obama’s written statement about the Commission:
“It is a top priority of my administration to ensure that the products the American people depend on are safe. We must do more to protect the American public – especially our nation’s children – from being harmed by unsafe products,” Obama said in a written statement.
The hope is that products can be better screened for the benefit of consumers. It is important to be careful about the products that you use, since some of them can be unsafe. If you (or worse — your children) become sick it can be expensive. By keeping track of what you are buying, and whether it is safe for use, you can limit your exposure to potentially costly health problems.
