It is always good to hear real life stories of how people – especially small business owners, are moving past old models of competitive business thinking and toward new, collaborative ideals. That’s why I liked reading what Lara Feltin, co-founder of Biznik, wrote about this very topic.
Not only do I know of numerous other examples of how this works, I have lived it and built my business in a collaborative manner.
During such a time of unsteadiness in the marketplace, why not look for new models and try something new and innovative? Here are a few steps you might want to go through:
Who do you consider your competition to be? (note – this is a must first step)
How are you different?
What gaps are there?
Have you met these competitors?
Now, think of five creative ideas about working WITH this competition, rather than against it. Seriously. Out of five ideas, one may really be practical. Humor me by trying this exercise out and just seeing what happens. Post your thoughts.
