She was so tired, she crept into one bed after the other, seeking rest, but one was too long, another too short"?¦until she came to the seventh, which suited her exactly; so she"?¦soon fell fast asleep.
"Snow White & the Seven Dwarves´
My sleep is important to me. So is a bath, desk and a hearty breakfast. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and part of my work is to look for flaws, so it often startles me when I come across a hotel that has very few things wrong.
I have often been asked which is the best hotel I have stayed in and after a recent trip to Spain, I would point to the Hotel Occidental Seville with a trembling finger. This magic establishment has topped the list of excellence, coming as close to perfection as any hotel I have yet experienced. It had a few personal aspects I would change but overall, this is my Spanish rose of hotels. I made a list of what this example of an almost perfect business hotel contained:
1. Close to public transport
2. Prompt service
3. Smiling staff who deliver the right information
4. Modern, attractive décor
5. Excellent food
6. Window views
7. Well appointed business centre
8. Large beds with firm mattresses
9. Lounge with lamps
10. Cheerful, marble bathroom with big bath and quality toiletries
11. Individual temperature controls that work
12. Large lobby divided for groups to meet, furnished with comfortable chairs and couch
13. Slippers and bathrobes
14. Sound-proof walls
Improvements to bring in absolute perfection — free latest release in-house movies, choice to have towels washed or not (increasingly common environmental standard), in-house massages and balcony. Let me know your list. A bad hotel can ruin your trip, while a good one is a platform for business bliss.
