There are few things in life more useless than bar napkins.
But Jay Jaber has found a good use for bar napkins. Good for him, anyway. He sells ad space on them.
The not-yet-30-year-old Jaber was at a bar writing business ideas on a napkin when he realized the napkin itself was a business idea.
In 2006 he founded NapAds and started producing photo-quality advertisements on beverage napkins. He launched in 2007 and has since put ads on napkins for clients including CBS, US Airways, American Express and Absolut Spirits.
Marketers see Jaber’s idea as a great way to reach 18-to-34-year-olds. Jaber now has napkins in bars, nightclubs and lounges in Manhattan but he has plans to expand this year to other cities, to airlines and to other countries.
Impressive. But if Jaber could come up with a napkin that does more than turn to mush on the bar in front of you, then we’d really be impressed.
