We all used to live in little tribes that hunted and grew our own food, however with the rise of global transportation, the dishes on our tables are sourced from around the world.
Unfortunately the transportation of food creates an enormous amount of pollution, uses almost 60% of the world’s oil and produces a quarter of all energy-related CO2 emissions which is growing at about 2.5% annually according to Venkat Kumar’s report on ‘Global Trade – Global Warming’.

So when ordering your next function ask your caterer or function organizer to only use food that is grown within a 100 km radius of your office. If they won’t then find someone who will – if enough of us do this the caterers will change their suppliers to meet demand.
It will also bring more employment to area as food currently shipped in is grown locally.
So as well as being good for the environment, you are supporting your local area – which is great for the district and it is great for businesses when money is flowing locally…including yours!
Idealistic? I think not. This is, hopefully, our future.
