All this talk about Covey’s 8th Habit and finding one’s voice inspired me to write this poem. Hope you like it.
Work Can Really be Work!
A manager´s work is never done, they say
But there are only 24 hours in my day
To do, to analyze, to counsel and plan
To make sure I don´t ruffle the boss man.
Work can really be work when it´s never-ending.
The manager establishes the culture, I´ve heard
And this gives new meaning to my chosen words.
It´s a big burden to be the one, the role model
The pressure is intense, where’d I put my bottle?
Work can really be work when all eyes are on me.
A manager can turn the business around, I´ve read
That´s a tall order to squeeze in between coffee and bed.
I want my business to make money, create new products, and grow
But I fear what I don´t know that I don"t know.
Work can really be work when the business is in my hands.
A manager can inspire people to do great work, I´ve seen
They become jazzed, focused, smart – very powerful beings.
And this work is what keeps my manager´s motor running
It´s a legacy I can leave that is compelling, significant, stunning.
Work can really be my life´s work when I enliven others.
