Recently I had the privilege to meet co-authors Judy Thomson and Gayle Hallgren who released Work the Pond! — Use the Power of Positive Networking to Leap Forward in Work and Life.
The book is authored by Darcy Rezac, the Managing Director of the Vancouver, BC Board of Trade. In this role since 1986, he figures he has met more than several hundred thousand folks and attended tens of thousands of receptions. Rezac is clearly a man who has seen and learned many, many things about meeting people over the years.
By shaping the book with the additional viewpoints of Judy and Gayle, who are both very bubbly, informative, and were a pleasure to talk with, they have been working on what they call Positive Networking"?¢ as a way of business life and are spreading this message to the business world.
Buy the book simply because it is a clear, easy, step-by-step sequenced series of tips, stories, and ideas to help you succeed in business and life. Sign up for free networking tips here.
For those of us who HAVE kissed more than our share of frogs to meet our Prince"?¦ and don´t care to kiss any more, know that this is just a way to weave the fable through the book and offer some great analogies. For me the book is really about their description of Positive Networking — where you focus on the other person and what they seek rather than yourself. This has been a rudimentary tenet of my success and the power of this can´t be underestimated.
It was a pleasant and fun read; instilling the most basic ideas (ALWAYS have business cards with you) to the great ideas we need to remember: toads happen. I highly recommend Work the Pond as a must read if you want to improve your social capital and be more successful in sales and in business.
