Fellow business blogger Susannah Gardner and I are making final preparations for the first-ever business blog conference to be held in Asia, called BLOGasia. The event is scheduled for next week, September 21-22, in Singapore.
Aside from the personal excitement we both feel in getting an all-expense paid trip to one of the most beautiful cities in the world (and I have to tell you, I’m bursting at the seams with excitement), we are helping to open the doors for biz blogging in an area of the globe where it is still pre-mainstream.
Blogging is becoming almost commonplace in North America, but is still gaining a foothold in other parts of the world. Slashdot calls Asia the “next frontier” in blogging, so perhaps this is a pioneering effort.
We face several challenges, not the least of which is adapting a western worldview of communication to an eastern mindset. That may not be as big a hill to climb as I perceive, as Singapore is very westernized and most of the participants are from there.
We hope to live-blog the conference as much as possible, and will let you know where to find those posts. I know with the preparation that’s gone on, the conference will go well. My two main concerns at this point are worrying that my luggage arrive with me, and whether they will be able to understand my southern drawl!
If any of you have any knowledge of the business blogging scene in Asia and/or have traveled to Singapore, please leave a comment. I want to know all I can.
