If you want to use the services of a contract worker in your home based business, you will do better if you can be specific about their duties. What is meant by that?
I’ll use a bookkeeper as an example since that’s a service that most every home-based business farms out. If you want use the services of a bookkeeper, you can’t just say “I want you to be my bookkeeper” and leave it at that.
Bookkeeping involves a lot of different jobs and tasks. Examples would be paying bills, balancing bank accounts, posting accounting records, and writing checks. You may want your bookkeeper to do all those things or you may want to only turn some of the more time consuming things over to that person. You may want to retain some of the more sensitive tasks for yourself.
You should be specific about what you want from a bookkeeper and put that task list in writing when you hire the person. This way both parties (you and your bookkeeper) are on the same page.
This applies to just about any contract people you have working for you. Be specific about what you expect from them and they’re more likely to serve your needs better.
