John Battelle made the list of the Top Ten Innovators from AdAge. If you don’t know Battelle, he’s one of the co-founders of Wired Magazine. But now, he’s probably at least as well known for his own blog, John Battelle’s Search Blog and for his advertising network, Federated Media.
Federated Media is John Battelle’s baby. Beginning with a passion to help bloggers make enough to not have to worry about anything save writing,Battelle has made FM into a blogosphere advertising powerhouse.
His approach to competition is what makes him unbeatable:
And, inevitably, there’ll be more competition, from new- and old-media types alike. Mr. Battelle, who knows a little about PR from working the other side of the fence, doesn’t seem particularly worried, though. “I’ll tell you what people tell me when I report on this stuff: All these competitive threats, they’re very validating.”
With sites like Digg, BoingBoing, Dooce, ReadWriteWeb and GigaOM, the advertising network boasts some of the biggest names of the blogosphere. His author-driven model will, undoubtably, give his authors and his advertisers long term value.
