If you have a drop ship home business what do you do about back orders this time of year? This time of year, when customers order something there’s a good chance they want it for a gift. And now we’re into the “home stretch” for when they can order something and expect to get it shipped.
Ordinarily backorders just get an automated email from my site telling the customer when to expect the product. But this time of year, I added a personal email letting the customer know that we want to hear from them about their need for the item. Much of the time, they aren’t interested in waiting for the backorder. And unfortunately that means we are spending more time than I’d like issuing credits and writing correspondence.
However raising the level of customer service doesn’t always mean actually delivering the goods. Since we started this practice a few years ago, the customers have been mostly appreciative of the communication and many will return later when they need something else. So when it comes to backorders, bad news can be delivered in the most constructive way possible and doesn’t have to lose you customers.
