You’ve probably heard it said that the best kind of online business is one that can run on ‘Auto Pilot’. That is, it can operate without much involvement from you – the entrepreneur.
I was reminded there’s a big difference between ‘Auto Pilot’ and ‘Auto Ignore’ as I was reviewing the most mature of our drop ship sites this past weekend. This website is in Auto Pilot mode as much a drop ship business can be. The orders get sent, the payments settle, shipping notices are sent, etc., all without my involvement.
However, the store still needs tending and that doesn’t mean I can just ignore it. Products need to be reviewed to make sure they’re still available from the supplier, that they’re priced correctly (has there been a price hike?) and other maintenance review tasks.
I’m not sure any business can be completely on Auto Pilot. I think we need to spend some time on even the most Auto Pilot business. What about you? Do you have a complete Auto Pilot home business or is that term just sales letter nonsense?
