Some interesting numbers from public relations experts Ogilvy. They did a short survey of 50 Australian companies, and found that 75% believe a positive environmental brand will be a must-have for business within 10 years. In the rush to achieve that positive brand however, 98% see greenwashing throughout corporate Australia, with a full 74% feeling that the misrepresentations are not accidental; they believe the public is being misled on purpose.
They’re not the only ones concerned with greenwashing. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission released guidelines in February on green marketing, and a week later they went after Saab and its “Every Saab is Green Campaign”. Saab is fighting back however, saying that the campaign was clear in its wording and intention.
