I had the good fortune to hear Kathryn Cramer, author of Change the Way You See Everything, this week at a local event. It was a great session, and I took many notes – some of the best takeaways will be mentioned here.
This book is definately one for your business library – it is one of my top ten for sure. You can see it in my store here…. go to the 2nd page.
Asset-based thinking is in contrast to the old positive thinking concept that everything has a bright side. Life has bad moments, and we go through trials and tribulations so for me, being Suzy Sunshine about life isn’t reality-based. What I like about asset-based thinking is that it is focused on looking at the resources we have and moving forward with what we’ve got.
In sales, this is particularly true because many sales professionals (or business owners) will stew about not having the right marketing materials or website – stalling sales opportunities because they are coming from a deficit-based standpoint. In asset-based thinking, we’d evaluate what we have to bring, what others have to bring, and what the environment around us offers – then we move forward.
I like these ideas:
Magnify what’s best and focus on the rest
Imitate shamelessly and often
Change the way you see other people
Bypass anxiety…. build energy
One other great thing about the book is the fabulous photography. Check it out!
