Don’t you find that life is certainly easy when you do the same things over and over again? I can generate sales strategies quickly because that’s what I’ve done for years. That comes easy and I do it well. You probably find that you get better at the familiar tasks that you do and you know with some certainty that success will come your way. But, wouldn’t life be just too boring if you NEVER tried something new?
For me it would be way too boring. I have to try new things. That’s what I think about sales, too. If I were to do the same activity day in and day out, I would bore myself. What would my customers think?
There’s a happy balance between boredom and the stress from trying something unfamiliar. Why not try something that you’ve been just a little afraid to try? It could be a new presentation, calling on a different type of customer, expanding your business, firing a customer(!,) or asking for a referral.
Whatever has challenged you, why not think about facing the challenge and doing one small thing about it? Whatever happens–success or failure– your life will be different and you will be better for it. I predict that you’ll be a lot less bored, too. Are you ready to try something new this year?
