Today I got a slew of comment spam posted to one of my blogs. Fortunately you can delete comment spam from your Typepad account (you can probably do it with other blog software, and I use Typepad so that’s what I’m familiar with.) Also, Typepad has posted an update you should read about comments and trackbacks. They address the comment spam issue and how they are upgrading the system to eliminate as much as possible.
If you do get comment spam, here’s what to do (on a Typepad account):
1. Report it to Typepad so they can ban the IP address from ALL Typepad accounts. You can do this by submitting a support ticket through your Control Panel.
2. Ban the commenter’s IP address from your blog. Again, you can do this through the Control Panel shortcuts on the right of your screen.
3. Delete the comment spam from your blog. Under the Post tab there is a link that says "list comments". Click on that link and delete the offending comments.
We cannot let these spammers get away with these activities so acting quickly to ban and delete is important.
