“Psychologists have long known that a person’s behavior is strongly determined by past experiences and by how these experiences are viewed by an individual. For instance, in the field of business, a person may start a company and have it fail within a few years. This failure can be looked at either as motivation to succeed in the future (using mistakes as learning tools) or as a sign that nothing the person does will ever succeed.”
– I find my myths coming back to haunt me again and again. It is a difficult process to work through but being aware that your myths are myths can go a long way towards exorcising the demon. I once had the opportunity to speak with Paul Allen of Microsoft fame (without realizing it was him until later) and we were talking about starting a business. I was in the process of starting a business and commented on the difficulties and asked him if he had any advice. He said, “Just line everything up and do it.” So simple. Obviously he has excorcised his myths and is firing on all cylinders. It is a good example for all of us who want to succeed to a level that would be considered getting along to Paul Allen. -ed.
