There will be lots of cookouts and picnics come Wednesday, when Americans plan to celebrate America’s birthday. Sixty-one percent of people surveyed said they plan an outdoor meal. Then, after the feast, 42.5 percent will watch a fireworks display and, before the meal, 9.7 percent will go to a parade.
While many said – in the National Retail Federation’s 2007 Independence Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey — that they are driving less (40 percent) and taking fewer shopping trips (41.9 percent) because of fluctuating gas prices, one in 10 people surveyed (11.3 percent) said they will travel or go on vacation for the holiday. Good news for retailers: 17.3 percent of shoppers said they will purchase additional patriotic merchandise to celebrate Independence Day.
BIGresearch conducted the survey.
