You probably won’t notice it if you go to the usual Amazon.com website. I’m not sure how Amazon is promoting it, but in late October they launched a special site just for small businesses. It’s called the All Business Center (no relation to AllBusiness.com.) Could be they’re counting on bloggers to promote it, because I learned of it from The Shop Floor.
What they have done is filtered out all the their merchandise that is probably not on your business shopping list, and presented the stuff that is on an Amazon-style website. The two main product categories are Software and Outfit Your Office. The latter covers all sorts of equipment from computers to furniture to coffee machines, and adds books and magazines to the mix. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll bet that if you’ve shopped on Amazon.com, the user experience will be very familiar. One interesting feature is a forum section for customer discussions. (Being in the market for a new laptop, I was drawn in to the DO NOT GET VISTA discussion.)
Hey, as Matt at The Shop Floor says, it’s nice that Amazon sees small businesses as worth catering to.
