Peter Beattie, the former Queensland Premiere, was speaking on sustainable tourism, at the University of South Carolina, and he’s definitely a “glass half full” kind of thinker. With global warming being in the headlines, people are becoming more focused on living green, and tourists are searching for vacation spots that are environmentally friendly.
Mr. Beattie feels that Australia’s rainforests and the remarkable Great Barrier Reef will be a perfect attraction, and a phenomenal economic stimulator for the area. He’s also hoping to see programs that provide opportunities for indigenous eco-tourism, where visitors can learn about the relationship between the environment and Australia’s Aboriginal people.
