Those of us who blog at Allbusiness.com have many reasons to be proud. Personally, I consider it a signal honor to be a member of the pack. As you may already be aware, Forbes gave us another reason to “toot our horn,” picking the AB blog channel as some of the best small business blogs on the web.
OK, enough horn blowing. Here’s why that has relevance for you. In a recent post, I suggested you consider adding a blog channel to your website. I won’t cover that ground again, except to say that if your site is already well-trafficked, blogs are a natural fit.
Forbes picked us saying that we provided a “clearinghouse” of small business-related information. If you read many of the blogs routinely you know that’s true. And, thanks to the way blogs grab attention from search engines, a niche-oriented blog channel can be a sure-fire traffic grabber for you too. Not only that, it postures you as a site replete with constantly-updated relevant information. Relevance and recency are two key factors in garnering search engine attention, particulary Google.
You might feel that getting one blog off the ground is trouble enough, much less an entire cadre. While its true more technical acumen is needed to accomplish such a feat, it’s well within your reach. Blog platforms like Movable Type, Typepad, and WordPress are easily extensible to a multi-blog platform. Using RSS aggregation with tools like Feedburner, you can even setup a “metablog” which serves as a portal to pull content from each of the member blogs.
This is not rocket science (OK, maybe it is a little bit like rocket science). Regardless, there are plenty of technology consultants who can help you turn this into reality. And well-qualified bloggers and writers abound. Heck, they don’t even have to be bloggers. Just find some folks who are expert in their niche and dangle a carrot in front of them. You’ll be surprised at how many will bite, even if you don’t have a budget to pay them. Many will do it for the experience and reputational equity such opportunity affords. If they need training on how to write blog-style, well that’s where folks like me can help.
Blog channels are the NEXT next big thing where business blogging is concerned, and you do like being ahead of the pack, don’t you?
Why don’t you consider adding a blog channel to your website. Who knows, maybe one day Forbes will be knocking at your door.
