“Green is just part of my mission statement”; says John Klapperich, owner of KMBQ-FM in the Mat-Su Valley in Alaska. He’s been part of the business community for 30 years and he sees the future as being a green one.
His plan now is to be the first radio station in Alaska to be powered by both solar and wind power by 2009. In the meantime, his station will offer “The Green Minute”, a new segment that will offer quick environmental tips to the listeners. He’s also encouraging his advertisers to go green. If they reduce their carbon footprint by 10%, they’ll receive a 10% discount on their advertising bill, a 20% green reduction results in a 20% discount in advertising, all the way up to 40%.
